GILLETTE SLIM ADJUSTABLE - Door curvature research

Many collectors and fan of vintage shaving, use to think that the head of the Gillette Slim adjustable model has been acquiring some improvements on the design.

There are right. But not in the usual way that they use to think. People use to think that the curvature of the head has changed. And that is not true.

In this research we confirm that the curvature has been the same in all the Slim models from 1961 to 1968.

Gillette Slim adjustable head has developed two changes on the design of the head:

1.- On 1961 end caps become one piece apart from the center bar.

2.- On 1964 doors "sideburns" (on the lateral side of the doors) changes its shape.

SLIM ADJUSTABLE DOOR CURVATURE RESEARCH

Many people use to think that the external curvature of the door has changed.
This fact is true, if we compare the "Fat boy" head design with the "Slim adjustable".
But if we talk about the same model, specifically when we compare the first Slim model (1961) with the latest model (1968), we can say that there has been no changes on the head curvature.

On the images below, we can see two models of different years, on which an ellipse has been drawn.
The diameter of the ellipse is the same on the two images. The machines has been placed one over the other and no differences has been found.

We can check that the curvature of the blade and the external curvature of the head is identical on the two razors.

The only changes that we can see are the design of the end caps, and the design of the door sideburns.

So we can support that the curvature of the head on the Slim adjustable model has not changed over the years.
